Have any of you heard about these absolutely insane theories that 9/11 was staged by our government, not the terrorists?
Let me fill in those who don't: A large number of us - almost
half of New York City residents - believe the government knew of the attacks before they occurred on September 11th, 2001, according to an August 2004 Zogby poll. Even if the poll was fixed, this is a very large number. But that's not as troubling as the fact that many of these people believe the government is actually responsible for these attacks.
How? Theories indicate the twin towers fell due to controlled demolition. The conspiracy advocates claim that the steel frame could not have given away after the planes hit. Unfortunately, respected engineering and scientific journals have given evidence that this is not the case:
The photo in the Popular Mechanics article shows what kind of "evidence" the advocates of these theories are using.
The Pentagon is also addressed - many people cannot believe a massive 757 hit the building when there are apparently no remains on any of the photos. Hundreds of eyewitnesses claim that the plane was very real, but conspiracy believers are still attached to their shifty security videos and photos.
What do these people think happened, then, on 9/11? I have heard many theories. The most common scenario that I have read about involves controlled demolitions in the Trade Centers, a cruise missile at the Pentagon, and the people on the Pennsylvania and Pentagon planes taken off board at a military base, and killed.
As much as I dislike the logistics in large governments, I cannot believe our politicians would do such a thing. Actually, I don't think they could! If the government can't keep illegal immigrants out, how could they possibly perform such a spectacular disaster on 9/11?
